The Lehigh University Catholic Campus Ministry Constitution

Article I

The name of the organization shall be the office of Catholic Campus Ministry at Lehigh University.

Article II

The purpose of the Newman Center is to organize and unify the Lehigh Catholic community, to assist the members of the Lehigh community in coming to a personal adult expression of the faith, to provide a visible student symbol of active Catholic life to all Lehigh students, and to ease the transition from home-life to college-life and concurrently ease the particular challenges to Catholic ideals and teachings resulting from this transition.

Article III

Membership is open to all Students of the Lehigh community as well as Graduate students and Faculty. Members may not participate in activities which compromise the purpose of Catholic Campus Ministry. Members must be active in at least one committee. Membership can be reviewed by the exec board as needed. Executive Board Members must attend 85% of all possible meetings each semester or a replacement election may be held.

Article IV

Section 1

To be considered for office, a student must have been an active member of Catholic Campus Ministry for at least one semester prior to the election. Candidates must be students at Lehigh University and must remain to for the duration of the office. Elections will take place at the end of the academic year.

Section 2

President: The President acts as the official liaison and spokesperson for the Newman Council. Duties include: running biweekly Newman Council meetings, meet with the Catholic Campus Coordinator (Ron Koach) before each meeting to create agenda, oversee all Newman Council activities, and delegate tasks. The president also must attend the meetings of the Parish Pastoral Council of Holy Ghost Church and is the liaison between the Newman Center and the parish.

Vice President: The Vice President will assist with Presidential duties including the planning of events and will take the place of the president when they are unable to be there.

Secretary: The Secretary will take attendance at Newman Council meetings and functions, and keep a record for each semester. The secretary will also take meeting minutes (including a task list) and share them through Google Drive in a timely fashion to all officers and those in attendance. Before each Newman Council meeting, the secretary will print out hard copies of the previous meeting minutes in the office of the Catholic Campus Coordinator (Ron Koach) for all attending the meeting.

Head of Advertising/Outreach: The Head of Advertising/Outreach will promote Newman Council activities and upcoming events via social media and flyers, work with other student organizations on collaborative events, and take photos at ALL Newman Center sponsored events. The head of advertising/outreach will also assist the Catholic Campus Coordinator (Ron Koach) in updating the website.

Head of Programs & Events: The Head of Programs & Events will assist the Catholic Campus Coordinator (Ron Koach) in organizing outings, pilgrimages, and retreats. They will also delegate leadership for the various Newman Council activities.

Head of Prayer/Spirituality: The Head of Prayer/Spirituality will help in the recruiting of lectors, servers, ushers, singers, and musicians in cooperation with the Catholic Campus Coordinator (Ron Koach). They will also create opportunities for prayer and spiritual growth by working with the head of programs and events to coordinate religious retreats for all Newman Council members by suggesting guest speakers and religious activities to enhance Catholic student life.

Athletics Chair: The Athletics Chair is the official liaison between the Newman Center and athletics. They inform the Newman Council of the activities of the athletics and coordinates any cooperative efforts between them. The Athletic Chair must be in the Lehigh athletics program.

Fellowship Chair: The Fellowship Chair will create opportunities for fellowship and community building among Catholics on campus with the head of programs and events.

Graduate Student Chair: The Graduate Student Chair is the official liaison between the Newman Center and graduate students. The Graduate Student Chair must be a graduate student.

Gryphons Chair: The Gryphons Chair is the official liaison between the Newman Center and the Residence Life Office. They inform the Newman Council of the activities of Residence Life and coordinates any cooperative efforts between them. The Gryphons Chair must be a current Gryphon.

Greek Life Chair: The Greek Life Chair is the official liaison between the Newman Center and the Greek Life organizations on campus. They inform the Newman Council of the activities of Greek Life and coordinate any cooperative efforts between them. The Greek Life Chair must be a current member of a Fraternity and/or Sorority.

Members at Large: Members at Large are students that are willing to help, but do not wish to be appointed an official position.

Article V

Section 1

Regularly scheduled meetings shall be held every other Wednesday in the Newman Center.

Article VI

No dues are collected. All requests for finances will go through the Coordinator of Catholic Campus Ministry - who is appointed by the Bishop of the Diocese of Allentown.

Article VII

Amendments must be approved by theĀ Coordinator of Catholic Campus Ministry - who is appointed by the Bishop of the Diocese of Allentown.
